Happy Thanksgiving! Today is a day to sit back, eat a lot of food, watch some football, and give thanks for all the amazing things that we have in life. Lacrosse is just a game, but the meaning it has to the players, alumni, coaches, parents, and fans of this program is so much more. It has gifted us with a team in which we can be proud of, an outlet from all the hardships in life, and most importantly, a lifelong bond with the brothers who we share the field with. Family is one of the foundations of this program and that is all thanks to Flip. He instilled this value in each and every single player that he coached. His legacy still lives on today as each new member of the team is welcomed into the family with open arms. As you all sit back and reflect upon what you are thankful for, think of those who came before you and those who will succeed you. We are all family.
Like last year, Thanksgiving falls right at the end of our fall campaign. We welcomed in 32 new players from around the country and even one from the Netherlands! All of these players will have an impact on the teams success moving forward. We can't help but be thankful that they chose to be a Ram.
We were lucky enough to be able to play 4 very competitive scrimmages against NCAA and MCLA opponents. The first two were held in Pueblo, CO against Adams State and CSU-Pueblo. The Rams were able to take care of Adams State but went into overtime against CSU-Pueblo where senior Gabe Remshardt scored the game winning goal. We then welcomed Wyoming and Metro State to campus where many of the new players were able to gain valuable in game experiences.
We were also able to welcome the Alumni up to the Fort this year for Alumni and Family weekend. This was a great opportunity for many of our current players to meet some legends who donned the green and gold before them. It showed many current players what the true meaning of family is as well as the impact that Flip had on the program. The weekend culminated with the Alumni game where the Rams played a scrappy and very competitive Alumni team. The Rams came away with the win but the game was about much more than the final score.
As we look forward to the start of the spring season, there is a lot to be excited about. The Rams are loaded with talent on both the offensive and defensive sides of the field. We will play a tough schedule that includes CU, BYU, and newcomers to the RMLC, Oklahoma and Texas. Our spring campaign kicks off on February 8th as we head to Colorado Springs to play Colorado College.
