USLIA Finals Recap – CSU 15, Simon Fraser 11

In St. Louis. semifinal game. Clear and 70 degrees on grass #5 seeded Simon Fraser vs. #3 seeded Colorado State. Mike Roth scored 7 goals, including his team’s first 4, as Colorado State came back from a 4-1 first quarter deficit to defeat previously unbeaten Simon Fraser 15-11 and win the 1999 USLIA championship in St. Louis on Saturday. With CSU still trailing by one goal after three quarters, freshman Mike Napolilli scored 3 goals and added an assist in a 6-1 fourth quarter barrage when State put the game away.
USLIA Semifinals Recap – CSU 12, Sonoma 11

In an exciting, hard-fought, and fast-paced game, CSU held on to defeat Sonoma State (California) by the score of 12-11 to gain a spot in the USLIA finals, where they will play Simon Fraser University.
USLIA First Round Recap – CSU 14, Tennessee 6

Sophomore attackman Mike Roth had 4 goals and 3 assists to lead CSU to a 14-6 quarter-final win over the University of Tennessee Thursday night at the USLIA Championships in St. Louis, Mo.. UT had beaten Texas A&M 17-12 on Wednesday to earn the round of eight, and the right to meet the Rams. Third seeded CSU had a bye in the first round, but needed a couple of quarters to stretch out after the 15-hour bus ride from Ft. Collins to St. Louis.

On a day that that started nasty, but became sunscreen weather by the third quarter, Colorado State withstood the pressure game of perhaps the best midfield in college club lacrosse and went on to beat C.U. 16-13 in a game that earned the visiting Rams the number one seed for the league championships next week in Salt Lake City.

On a cool, windy spring day in Ft. Collins Colorado State couldn’t overcome a first quarter 5-1 deficit, and fell to Colorado College, 11-9 in a game between in-state foes. CSU (9-2 overall) couldn’t get untracked early against the Division 3 Tigers, who had recently returned from an east coast trip, came out strong, and led 7-1 at intermission. The second half had a very different look that led to a very exciting finish. Four unanswered goals by CSU made it 10-8 with 6:38 left in the game, but that was as close as the Rams got.

35-man roster got plenty of PT on a beautiful first day of spring as CSU scored early and often en route to a 28-3 victory over Varsity Division 2 program Regis University. Senior middie Brian Linehan had 4 goals and 3 assists. On attack, Mike Napolilli had 3goals and 4 Assists, Mike Roth had 6G 2A, and Ryan Ferrin. Had 4G 3A for State.

In L.A. Colorado State took an 8-2 lead at half, and withstood a Lion-hearted rally from Loyola Marymount University to post a 15-9 win in the second game of the State’s 4-game, spring break, Southern California road trip. LMU used only 12 players , but proved to be a pesky opponent for the highly ranked Rams(5-1 overall). on a chilly Southern California afternoon.

On a chilly , breezy day in L.A. California Berkeley (#1) outlasted Colorado State (#3), 14-11 in a battle for national poll position played at a neutral site (LMU) in Los Angeles. The game was back and forth, with punches thrown and counters landed from both teams. The fourth quarter began with the score tied at 7-7, but Joe Proud’s well-coached Cal Bears made fewer mistakes down the fast and furious stretch, and once again made the fourth quarter their quarter, and the game was theirs, too.
