#MCLAHOF19: Mark Plonkey, CSU

Mark Plonkey enters the MCLA Hall of Fame as an outstanding player.

Generally considered the best long-stick midfielder of his era, Plonkey dominated between the lines for Colorado State from 2001-04. He was a First Team All-American in both ’03 and ’04, earning Second Team All-American status in ’02.

With Plonkey leading the way, Colorado State played in the national championship game all four of his seasons, winning titles in ’01 and ’03.

He was a two-time captain for the Rams and was named the 2002 Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Lacrosse League (RMILL) Defensive Player of the Year.

“I am extremely honored to have been selected as one of only five players in the inaugural MCLA Hall of Fame class,” Plonkey said. “To be mentioned among the other inductees is extremely flattering.

“With the exception of Rob [Warner], I had the opportunity to strap it on and play against each one of these extremely talented and competitive guys during my time at Colorado State. But for me what is most special is that I’m being inducted into the Hall with a lacrosse legend and father figure for me: Flip Naumburg.”

Plonkey was a sixth-round pick of the NLL’s Colorado Mammoth and was a member of Team USA West that competed in Perth, Australia (2001) and Tokyo/Bejing (2003). He was also selected to Vail Lacrosse Shootout All-Star team in 2003.
