Colorado State Wins Showdown vs. the Buffs 13-6

COMMERCE CITY, Colorado— Colorado State was not about to let Boulder’s 11-4 victory at last year’s game last longer than it had to. The Rams got the vengeance they have been searching for since last year’s Rocky Mountain Showdown when they rammed Boulder into the ground, defeating them 13-6 on Saturday.

“It’s always good to win this particular game, regardless of the circumstances,” Head Coach Alex Smith said. “Beating CU, especially after last year’s game, felt great.”

The CSU offense made several powerful plays and attacked the goal. Nine players scored goals this game and kept CU’s defense working hard to figure out where the next shot would come from.

The Rams dominated the game from the start and never let up the intensity, leading the Buffs 6-2 at half time, and scoring seven more goals by the end of the game. But the Buffs’ offense put some pressure on the defense, and CSU Goalie Alex Jacques rose to the occasion making 14 saves.

“Alex played amazing tonight – maybe the best I’ve seen him his whole career,” Smith said. “He made all the saves he was supposed to and he made a bunch that maybe he wasn’t.” Jacques also had a three-save sequence in the fourth quarter that, according to Smith, “really put an exclamation point on the win.”

With an important win under their belt, the team is looking forward to the rest of the season, which Smith called, “absolutely brutal, but a lot of fun.”

“With Minnesota-Duluth and Michigan coming in this weekend, we are going to have our hands full on both Friday night and Sunday afternoon. We just need to keep trying to get a little better every day. When we play to our potential, this team can really be special.”

Friday night the Rams will play #6 Minnesota-Duluth at 7:00 p.m. on the CSU intramural fields. And Sunday at 12:00 p.m. the Rams will face off against the number one team in the MCLA, Michigan on the CSU intramural fields.
