Colorado State Men’s Lacrosse to play Lindenwood in Showdown at INVESCO

Denver, Colorado- Colorado State Men’s Lacrosse will play Lindenwood, a fierce team out of Missouri, rather than the previously scheduled University of Colorado in their annual Showdown at INVESCO to be played on April 11th at 4 p.m. The game will be the second of a double header, with the University of Denver playing Notre Dame in the earlier game at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are now available through Ticketmaster for $15 a ticket, or $13 for a group rate, and all tickets sold will be good for both games. Tickets will also be sold two days on the Colorado State campus at a discounted rate of $10.<!--more--> Partnering with the CSU Lacrosse Alumni to help make this event happen is the Denver Outlaws and INVESCO Field. “We are very excited to partner with INVESCO Field and the Denver Outlaws again for the Showdown this year,” interim coach Alex Smith said. “They are a classy organization and it means a lot that we get to continue our relationship.” Traditionally, the Showdown has been played between Colorado State and Colorado, with a record of 5-0 in favor of Colorado State in the Showdown’s five year history. It has been a game both teams look forward to throughout the season, and will continue to be so even if it isn’t for the Showdown. Colorado State will still play Colorado on the same date as originally scheduled, April 18th, but CU will host the game at Folsom Field instead of INVESCO. It is an unfortunate change of circumstances since the Showdown is great for both in-state programs, as well as the Denver community, but Colorado State will take full advantage of the opportunity to play 13th ranked Lindenwood in the Showdown. Lindenwood is one of the toughest teams to play in the MCLA so both teams should come out fired up and ready to play in a venue as large as INVESCO. “Lindenwood is a good team and we are excited about playing them again, especially in this venue,” Smith said. “We had quite a battle with them a couple years ago in St. Louis, so we know that they will give us all we want in terms of competition. Any time you are in this type of atmosphere for a lacrosse game, it means a little bit more, so even though it’s not a conference game, we expect there to be a lot of emotion.” The game against Lindenwood he is referring to was a 6-5 win for the Rams in 2007. It could be an exciting change of pace to see the Rams play a team from outside the area in the Showdown. If this double-header format goes well it would be interesting to see this become the new Showdown tradition. It could turn out to be great for the entire lacrosse community, let alone the lacrosse programs involved. Most of the players for the Rams enjoy playing in the Showdown, no matter who they play, and to give three other teams the chance to participate is something Colorado State Men’s Lacrosse will cherish. Senior captain Will Cantwell is going to treasure his opportunity to play in the Showdown. “Playing at INVESCO Field regardless of the opponent is very special to me because I have been a diehard Broncos fan my whole life. I actually think this time will be extra special because we have the opportunity to follow the DU Notre Dame game, which is a high level Division I game. Hopefully some of their fans will stick around and watch us play. This will be a great recruiting tool and way to sell CSU's lacrosse program being able to play at this venue on the same stage as the states DI team.” Colorado State is considered the premier club lacrosse program in the nation, and for them to play right after two of the top varsity programs could be a chance to take them to the next level. Playing shortly afterwards will also give them a chance to watch what should be an exciting game between the University of Denver and Great Western conference rival #7 Notre Dame. Being the second game of a doubleheader that involves the University of Denver means a lot for our program,” commented Smith. “DU and Notre Dame are both excellent teams and it will be great for our guys to watch some of the game before we get suited up.”
