The camp is staffed by for the most part by players, coaches, and alumni from the CSU lacrosse program.  Guest coaches and players from the Denver Outlaws will come from time to time throughout the camp as well for demonstrations and clinics.  Our CSU Ram Camp staff is large because we do staff it with our own CSU lacrosse “family.”  The camper to counselor ratio will be approximately 4.5:1.

The staff makes sure that players/campers are at meals and on time for sessions.  The staff will meet and help the campers check-in and get settled.  Roommates can be requested, but often we find that it works better to assign rooms when they check-in on the first morning.

Counselors work with their groups all camp long.  Dorms are monitored and attendance is taken at all the sessions.  Insurance is handled through the university. Counselors will serve as check-out guides on the final day.

Mentoring is part of the counselor/camper relationship as well.  Here at CSU we like as many players becoming counselors as possible.

As mentioned we have always taken pride in putting passion and energy into every skill level.  We know there are jewels to be found in the rough when they are ready to be found.  We want to help make it easier for coaches to find them.

Right now we have a player in our program that has basically taken charge of all the youngest participants at our clinics and camps lately.  At last year’s summer camp Lee Cates (CSU ‘08) was followed around the campgrounds by the younger, less experienced set as if he were the Pied Piper himself.  The players/children under his care learned how to love the game and hopefully one another a little, and the group improvement over four days was evident, and so was the big fun they were having.  We think this early stage of fundamental learning to play and love the game is very important.  It sets the foundation for the future.

GUEST SPEAKERS

We bring in respected coaches and "superstar" players to come throughout our four days at 5000 feet in Fort Collins, and they do one or two hour clinics or sessions on special or particular aspects of playing lacrosse.  Sometimes this will be a team aspect of play, like reading and reacting to certain game situations.   Sometimes individual skills are the topic, like dodging, shooting, or facing off.  We try to touch on as many individual parts of the game as possible.

SAFETY / TRAINERS

CSU is up to date with an on campus lightning detector and other safety aware features.  Gatorade will be available, and we take plenty of breaks for water.  There is a building available for shade, and tents are set up around the fields for shade and trainers.

We use experienced CSU trainers and they are on field at all camp times.  We will try to accommodate individual needs for players.  Please let us know about special needs when you send in your application.
