February 26, 2000 CSU 23 Mines 3
The Colorado State Rams (3-0 overall, 2-0 league) followed up on their 12-3 victory against Colorado with a strong statement against the Colorado School of Mines on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Ft. Collins, Colorado. Scoring came often as 11 different players tallied for the Rams in a convincing 23-3 rout of league foe Mines.
The first quarter saw limited CSU goals, as Mines goaltender Chad Ones played well. Once CSU was able to crack the egg at the 6:37 mark in the first, the Rams were able to put 3 past him despite him making some solid saves. Sophomore Andrew Kliewer played very well in his first ever start as a goalie recording 9 saves. Sophomore Jim Hasson (3 goals, O assists) led the offense for CSU with 2 first quarter goals.
Colorado State scored three more in the second before Jeff Chan finally beat Kliewer to make the score 6-1. That was as close as Mines got, however, as CSU answered with three goals in one minute to push the lead to eight. Pat Lambert (1g, 0a, 7/9 face-offs) scored a goal with less than one second in the half and the Rams lead was 13-1.
The second half was more of the same as CSU got everyone plenty of playing time while outscoring Mines 9-2. This game marked the third in a row that an opponent was held to under five goals by the CSU defense. State dominated almost every statistical category including decisive margins in shots (74-28) and groundballs (90-30). Lambert, Andy Wolper (8/9 face-offs), and Kale Nelson (2g, 3a, 7/7 face-offs) controlled the face-offs for CSU. Also playing well for the Rams were freshman John Naab (2g, 3a) and Todd Clements (3g, 1a). Next up for CSU is a game with the Warrior Lacrosse club on Sunday afternoon in Fort Collins.
