Coach Flip Naumburg's Journal

Tuesday, April 3, 2007

I have been watching video of our next opponent while I ride my stationary bike this week.  By the way, it seems like the longer I ride this contraption I have been working out on for exactly 25 years (knee - blow up – skiing -1982) the fatter I get.  I need but choose not to rethink all that.  I am still taking the Delorean Back-to-the-future approach to body work and fuel, and I'm sure it ain't working that great for the long haul, but right now it is the short haul that concerns me.  I'm talking about hopefully the next 47 days in particular, so if I can just stay 'live' for that long I promise I'll change when I have a minute.

DID HE SAY DUKE?

The watching our next opponent on video styled coaching is still almost very unlike me, but I am enjoying the whatever bit of insight that I might be gleaning from watching Michigan duke it out in Ann Arbor with Kenyon College (Ohio DIII) at some recent time.

UPON FURTHER REVIEW

My first thoughts after watching some of that game are to not over coach our team in any way in my attempt to 'prepare' them.   I like some of the things that we naturally do to sort of work in or match up to some degree with the things they (Wolverines) do.  I just want to get our 'horse' ready to run the race, that's all, and that is a big part of what this week is about for me as the head 'trainer'.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN ROCKY

Speaking of trainers, I'm sure glad we have one (Brian) working with us on our conditioning two days a week.  Our physical state is in fact pretty good and getting stronger, feeling stronger.  A month and a half ago my guesstimate is that we were a full step slower than whatever team we were playing for a variety of reasons.  Well, I think that now we are almost caught up with the others, and my hope is that we will not be satisfied with equal.

We are not really into the home stretch of our season by any means, but it is on the horizon, and not that far down the calendar. The fun parts go by way too fast and vice versa.
