Coach Flip Naumburg's Journal Friday, March 2, 2007 FROM BROKEN COOKTOP TO LEAKY HEATER When it rains it pours. After last week in Eugene (non-stop rain) and then this week at home on the frozen range (broken cook top) it sure seems that way. The team started off the season broken (good job, Coach), and everything I touched around the house since I got home either turned to you-know-what when I got near it, or the handle fell off in my hand, or whatever. LOOKIN' FOR FUN AND FEELIN' GROOVEY When I was in high school they called me, "Groove", I guess because I had no trouble getting in one. Well, I might be in a groove now, but I think it is more like a rut when it comes to random things these days. It/me needs a little karmic adjustment. I'm working to fight my way through the jagged part. WE'VE COME A LONG WAY, BABY Tomorrow we have a little battle to tell us where we are. Tomorrow we drive to Colorado Springs to play CC down there at Washburn Field, where I spent several Saturday afternoons my own self back in the college day. Yes, it is the annual battle with my alma mater, but I really mostly simply view it as our (CSU) sole schedule opportunity to play a legitimate Division III school. I want us to play hard and represent our division of college lacrosse well against a solid sponsored varsity team. SELL OUT One of our players came up with a good 'mantra' for this team, a reminder of what we need to do to turbo-charge our overall effort. What he said was, let's "Sell out!". This was said before our game on Sunday and also in response to the fact that after Friday night we had nothing more to lose. Our team stock price tic could only stay the same or start to go up. We had hit rock bottom value in most of our own minds. TRUMP TOWER WE AIN'T I think we chose to attempt to build a new 'empire' of wealth with whatever currency we currently have in our piggy banks. We had to start somewhere. Now, we have to continue on to somewhere else, too. Everyone needs to pool all their internal nickels, dimes and quarters so we can ante up for every new foe, and those 'worthy opponents' just keep coming this year. TO BE OR NOT TO BE A PLAYER Then of course we need to know if our hearts and other inside parts are 'full' of enough real live blood cells to stay in the BIG game. These are the times that try men's lives and that is why we love to play the games. I feel at times like we could explode and really get going, and at times I wonder. Oregon beat BYU tonight. This doesn't change, surprise, or intimidate me in any way. Us is all about us right now. |
