CSU Lacrosse Announces 2006 Captains

The Colorado State University men's lacrosse team held its annual fall banquet on Sunday afternoon
and named its team captains for the 2006 spring season. Three seniors and a junior highlight
the leadership for a team that is hoping to redeem itself from a disappointing end to the
2005 year.
Senior defenseman Kellin Bershinsky (Fort Collins HS, CO) will be a fourth year starter
in 2006, coming off an impressive 2005 campaign in which he was named first team All-RMLC
and an honorable mention All-American. Bershinsky first came of age in the 2003 season,
when he stepped into the starting role for some injured teammates and never looked back
on his way to a very successful career with the Rams. Now considered one of the best overall
defensemen in the country, CSU will lean on Bershinsky to lead the defense in 2006.
Joining Bershinsky on the back lines for CSU will be senior goaltender Pete Jokisch (Rockhurst
Jesuit HS, MO). Jokisch is CSU's first three year starter at goaltender as well as the position's
first captain in recent team history. After being named a first team All-RMLC and a second
team All-American, Jokisch is the premiere returning goaltender in the MDIA. He saved 66%
of his shots in 2005 and moved his way up to second on the all time saves list in CSU history.
The midfield brings two captains to the fold for the spring season. Senior Michael Murphy
(Lake Oswego HS, OR) is coming off a 9 goal, 6 assist 2005 season and is one of the Rams'
most athletic and versatile players. Murphy has been a huge part of the CSU midfield rotation
since his freshman year and has seen his role increase every season. He is now very important
in almost all phases of the game for the Rams and is one of the most exciting players on
the CSU roster. Murphy was an honorable mention All-RMLC midfielder in 2005.
The fourth and final captain is also a midfielder. Junior Pat Bird (Bishop O'Dowd HS, CA)
seems poised to break out in 2006. Bird scored 33 points on 29 goals in 2005 and was named
a second team All-RMLC and third team All-American midfielder. His physical and athletic
style of play makes him one of the most dangerous players on the field at any given time.
Excelling on both offense and defense, the Rams are counting on Bird to be one of the best
two-way midfielders in the country this year.
Colorado State begins its season on February 23rd by taking on reigning MDIA champion UC-Santa
