Colorado State Dominates Utah State 22-2
Colorado State University Men’s Lacrosse
By Alex Smith (970-377-1390)
March 25th, 2006
Lakewood, CO - The newly anointed #1 Colorado State Rams scored two goals in the first two
minutes of the game and staked a 17-0 lead through three quarters against RMLC foe Utah State
on Friday evening. Everyone on the roster got significant minutes and 13 players registered
at least a point as the Rams dominated every statistical category against the Aggies in Lakewood,
CO.
Sophomore attackman Dylan Bowman (Fairview HS; Boulder, CO) celebrated his birthday with a
game-high seven points on four goals and three assists while sophomore Kevan Pimental (The
Colorado Springs School; Colorado Springs, CO) added three goals as many unheralded Rams pitched
in throughout the game. Early on, it became clear that CSU's offense could generate scoring
opportunities on virtually every possession, so the Rams slowly worked in the younger players
before turning the game completely over to them in the second half. Junior midfielder Ryan
Trude (Mt. Lebanon HS; Pittsburgh, PA) got into the groove offensively as he pumped in three
goals and got out of a scoring slump dating back to the start of the year.
Colorado State was forced to hold the home game off campus for the second time this week
because of a snow storm that hit the Front Range on Monday. Even though CSU's home field
was devoid of snow and relatively dry, the university decided to not take any chances. CSU
hosted the game at the same indoor facility that they played Missouri in on Monday and drew
a small crowd of mostly friends and family.
Sophomore goaltender Garrett Fitzgerald (Regis Jesuit; Denver, CO) did well in his first
start of the year, making three saves in 30:00 of work. CSU got their other three active
goalies in as well. Aggie goaltender Spencer Lee made 14 saves.
CSU (6-2 overall; 1-0 RMLC) should finally get to play at home on Saturday as the #20 Arizona
State Sundevils come to town for a 1:00pm tilt. The game will mark the first time the two
teams have played on Colorado State's home campus and it will be the fourth and final WCLL
team on the CSU schedule.
Game Notes:
- CSU's defense got the ball on the ground a lot, generated a staggering 71 groundballs
for the Rams. This is by far their highest total of the year.
- Neither team's man-up units were productive as they combined to go 0/7.
- CSU was very efficient shooting the ball as they put 30 out of 45 shots on goal.
- Junior defenseman Adam Schnirel (Mt. Lebanon HS; Pittsburgh, PA) scored the team's first
long stick goal of the year on a coast to coast run in the second half.
- Senior long stick midfielder Matt Reiss (Sycamore HS; Cincinnati, OH) snatched 10 groundballs
in this game, boosting him well into the team lead this season.
