CSU and BYU to Play in Doubleheader with University of Denver
Colorado State University Men’s Lacrosse

January 30th, 2006

Denver, CO – After initially being scheduled as a Saturday game on April 15th, the MDIA preseason #2 Colorado State Rams and #5 Brigham Young Cougars have had a change of plans. Instead, the teams will meet on Friday, April 14th at as part of an historic doubleheader on the campus of the University of Denver as the CSU/BYU game will lead into Denver’s match-up with GRLC rival Notre Dame. Colorado State and Brigham Young will play at 3:30 pm in Denver’s newly renovated Peter Barton Stadium, one of the premiere lacrosse facilities in the Rocky Mountain region.

The game will mark the first regular season neutral-site game between the two RMLC teams in over seven years and will feature one of the most heated rivalries in the USL-MDIA. BYU dominated the early portion of this series until 2000, when Colorado State defeated the Cougars twice for before losing to BYU in the MDIA championship game. The two teams have competed in a total of six one-goal games over the past six years and have combined for five out of the eight MDIA national championships. BYU ended a six game losing skid against CSU in the RMLC championship game last year by winning 8-7.

Lacrosse fans will be treated to another Western rivalry on April 14th when Denver and Notre Dame clash in the main event. The University of Denver is quickly becoming a national contender after coming one goal away from their first GRLC title in 2005 and climbing as high as #12 in some national polls. Notre Dame has always been in the hunt in Division I’s westernmost lacrosse conference and hope to rebound from a disappointing 2005. Denver starts the year as Division I’s #15 team while Notre Dame is ranked #10. The game is scheduled to be televised by Fox Sports Rocky Mountain at 7:30 pm and will likely have major ramifications on the GRLC title race in 2006.

Tickets for the event are available for purchase from either the Colorado State or Brigham Young lacrosse teams and proceeds from sales will benefit their respective programs. The tickets will include admission to the Denver/Notre Dame game later in the evening. To contact the Colorado State University lacrosse program for ordering information, please call (970) 377-1390.
