CSU 7 – UC DAVIS 1

We got a wake up call from a very competitive UC Davis team.  We were a bit full of ourselves when the game started, but when it was 1-1 up until only a minute was left in the first half the orange juice had hit the fan.  I raged at them during the half.  We scored quickly and often in the second half, but we had gotten the very important message.

I was mad at the way we played but I also give credit to the Aggies and what they did against us.  They showed the power of team, because on paper or whatever they cannot play with us, but they indeed did play with us.

CSU 11 – ARIZONA STATE 0

By the score, this was clearly our best game of the day.  We looked fresh and refreshed.  They were a better team than UC Davis, but the Sun Devils never had a look at this game.  This has everything to do with how we played, which was quite well, and not because ASU can't hang with us, because I think they can on a lot of days, just not this one.  I think they were pretty disappointed.  I think they thought they would have a real shot at beating us.  We moved the ball beautifully at times, and in a way we did some of that all day, even against BYU.

BYU 10 – CSU 5

The day was a long one to be sure.  It was interesting and at times exciting.  Ultimately we ran out of gas and BYU proved to be much the better team in this game.  The Cougars were in better physical condition and they put us away late in the game.  They went on a little run to go up 5-2 midway through the first twenty-five minutes and we never really recovered. We held them at 5 for a really long time, but obviously not long enough.  We were wounded going into the game.  Our injury list somehow grew between the ASU game and the BYU game and as the Cougar game went on we simply didn't have the depth to stay in.

Yes, it hurts, but truthfully I wasn't all that convinced of our greatness as a team anyway and this is the unfortunate confirmation that we indeed have much to do in many areas of our overall game.

The main problem we face is the current lack of physical depth, which leads us to our inability to plug 'anyone' into the 'system'.  I need more people to be ready to 'move up' if and when needed.  It is my job to use these next months to prepare them to do that.

Hopefully I will make it through the next weeks and life will go on.  Right now doesn't feel too good.
