INDIAN SUMMER

We had Indian Summer weather all week.  That is, the afternoons were pleasant and unthreateningly calm while the month of October quickly turns the summer shade trees into soon-to-be has-beens.  Their leaves still loom bright and colorful, and the days still almost seem long, but the bare naked truth of winter lies not far down the road.

INDIANA JONES

It was also a week for slackers.  There was some serious not-taking-this-seriously going on.  I guess I let it go because basically I really don't want 50 raving lacrosse lunatics that have no other life.  But then, careful what you don't wish for.  The proverbial bottom line is that I started to call them on their recent behavior right here on the sacred day, Friday Fun day.  I 'implored' them to get to work next week and that we have three weeks left to find out if we made any progress in the fall of 2006 as a team and as a program. 

Hello, is anybody in there?  Nod if you can hear me.

INDIAN GIVER

I have made it clear to a few of them recently that, all kidding and most talent aside, I do not like "half-assed".  The added problem with half-assers, however, sometimes is that they are just as half assed about quitting as they are about playing, so they will tend to show up from time to time to both tease and annoy me before the eventual whatever takes place.  However, sooner or later YOU will have to show your commitment to the family or it just won't work.  I will have neither mercenaries nor lacrossetitutes on my team if I can help it. 

We are close to finished with all this declaration stuff anyway.

ASSSUME NOTHING

"They" (some players) think we/they can just turn it up a notch here or there, and presto, we will be national champions.  No way, Jose'.  It does not work that way.  Now, if we don't get off of our collective asses (seems like the word for the day) soon, and in a large and philosophical team way, then this 'squad' will be in for some rude surprises, and they could come sooner rather than later, especially based on the talent we will face at 10:30 a.m. next Saturday when we play a collection of men (grown up men) going by the name of Spot Lacrosse Club.  They will have several pros on the roster.  We will also play a C.U. Buffalo team later that day, and they will have revenge on their minds………. again.
