CSU INVITATIONAL
We had seven teams at the Fort today with gorgeous weather. It is homecoming weekend
here at CSU and we even saw part of the big Homecoming Parade as it paraded past our field
this morning. Two of the teams here were us (CSU) split into two teams. We lost
2 of 3 games played by our "A" Team, a new occurrence for CSU lacrosse since I
have been here. The "B" Team won both of their games and really came together
nicely, especially in the second game they played, the one against the D.U. Club team.
Our A team lost early in the day to Spot, a Men's Club Team by a couple, and we lost to
C.U. for the first time in a very long time in the last game of the day. The Buffs
scored the winner with just 3 seconds left in the game or whatever amidst some clock confusion,
but whatever, they earned the victory. We didn't play well enough to force a win to
take place.
Our defense was pretty good all day, but offensively we are mistake prone and often timid.
It is a shame that we don't have another game or tournament this fall other than our alumni
game in two weeks because change best takes place with game time definitions take place.
We don't have much more opportunity for that.
There were times today when we didn't assert ourselves with the ball. We didn't look
dangerous. If teams don't fear you, they won't respect you, and until we get a hell
of a lot grittier none of that is going to happen. I guess it all starts at the top
doesn't it?.
I want to find the ones that have no fear and who basically work diligently and go quietly
about their business of getting better at the game, the ones who never quit on an anything,
the ones who work their bodies out more than their mouths, because as far as I'm concerned
it's put up or shut up time for all of us.
One thing for sure is that I am interested in defining our core group for sure right now.
If you do not plan on playing in the spring, then Fall Ball is over. Thanks for coming.
We have much work to do with those who will be there.
