STRIKE A POSE
Even if it is October (almost) I think this CSU lax team (almost to a man) sees this test
against BYU on Saturday as a very important first step on our mission down the road to some
kind of redemption. The chance to wrestle back the holy grail that was so unceremoniously
removed from within our grasp last May is what we live lacrosse for now here at State. When
the dream vanished all of a sudden we were stunned. Maybe we still are. Who knows? At any
rate for me there is only one direction to take in order to undo or fix what has been done.
The 2005 Grail found ground in California, just north of Santa Barbara. Congratulations
to them, but we are still feeling somewhat "black" about all that. As I see it
the only way to begin a fresh new quest for the silver cup is to finally be able to take
some of our not being able to play frustrations out on another team, one that is really
good, in this case the one in blue (BYU).
We know that our quest will eventually include necessary trips to California, because that
is where IT is, and I have scheduled our 2006 season accordingly.
The only location for us to begin from this year is not a terra firma one, though. The place
we must begin from is on a loftier plane. It hovers well above the field of dreams. It is
the "no fear" place, and it is where we must go to build our character, before
we can hope to move on.
CALENDAR OF EVENTS
BYU will be prepared. Taking a page from our Fall Ball book they will have played at least
two games already, including a game with C.U. the day before they play us. Our assistants
asked me if I wanted them to go "scout" that game on Friday in Boulder. My response
was monotonously the same as it ever was, which is to say that I do not care what "they"
do. I am far more concerned with what we are doing, and therefore the answer would be no,
I do not want to know more about "them" just now. Surprise me.
