VAIL LACROSSE SHOOTOUT ELITE DIVISION – DAY THREE

GMH  13 - ROCK-IT POCKET  2

HUMBLE PIE

We ate a big piece of humble pie today, losing to GMH 13-2.  I predict they will win the tournament.  We were overmatched.  We didn't play that well, but the other guys had talent, depth, and experience.  Their list of players included mostly DI players, fast and talented top to bottom.  I give them all the credit, but I am disappointed that we didn't give them more of a game.

Tomorrow we play a team sponsored and cheered for by Pete Coors himself.  They are a team made up entirely of Division I players as well, but all of this TEAM 21 are players who attended Cornell University.  If we can play well, we have a good shot at third place.

The most unpleasant image for me from today was one of them taking the ball from us pretty much in every way imaginable and whenever they wanted. We had one they could not induce into giving up the ball one way or another, steal, rape, force a bad pass, make us nervous, you name it. We didn't play well. They played pretty damn good. Sometimes you just have to stand there and take your licking. I don't have to like it or pretend that I learned something.

I watched some of the Jammin' Salmon vs. Oysters game.  There was a scary time when an Oyster player lay motionless on the field with a severe spine trauma.  Apparently he will be fine, but he will need surgery, and it certainly took all the fun out of things and the game was called off while the skies became gray and ominous.

Before the injury, however, I was thinking about how much I didn't like the way I felt about how we approached GMH on the field earlier.  As I watched, though, I realized that the Salmon, who would beat the Oysters pretty easily, were a very good team.  We had played a great game yesterday.  We just couldn't bring it again today when we were up against even bigger obstacles.  That's okay.  Tomorrow is another a day and actually there is likely many things to be learned from today.
