National Champions
Colorado State Wins Fourth
MDIA Title with 8-7 Victory Over Colorado - 5/13/06
Dallas, TX - The #1 Colorado State Rams trailed RMLC rival #3 Colorado
7-5 midway through the fourth quarter in the USL-MDIA Championship Game and the Buffaloes
were certainly playing well enough to beat CSU for the first time since 2000. But the
Rams' offense finally woke up and reeled off three goals in just over five minutes to
claim their fourth national title since 1999. The Rams were led once again by junior midfielder
Pat Bird (Bishop O'Dowd HS; Oakland, CA), who scored the tying goal and assisted the game-winner
with under two minutes to go for CSU's first MDIA title since 2003. Pictures

#1 Colorado State Moves
to USL-MDIA Finals with 12-7 Win vs. #5 BYU - 5/12/06
Dallas, TX - After losing an 11-8 decision in Denver, CO in March, the
#1 Colorado State Rams avenged their only MDIA loss of the year against RMLC rival Brigham
Young in the national semifinals. The Rams scored three goals in each quarter and got
points from 11 different players in a complete and balanced effort to move to their seventh
MDIA championship game. They will face another RMLC team as the #3 Colorado Buffaloes
defeated #10 UC-Santa Barbara in the other semifinals by a score of 6-5. Pictures

5/10/06
Dallas, TX - The #8 Arizona Laxcats led 2-1 in the first quarter, but ended
up chasing the #1 Colorado State Rams for most of the day as the Rams pulled away for
an 11-7 victory on Wednesday afternoon. Junior midfielder Pat Bird (Bishop O'Dowd HS;
Oakland, CA) scored three of his four goals in the fourth quarter as the Rams outscored
Arizona 4-2 in the final frame. Colorado State moves on to the USL-MDIA final four where
they will do battle with RMLC rival Brigham Young on Friday night. Pictures

#2 Colorado State Recaptures
RMLC Crown with 8-7 Win over Colorado - 4/29/06
Logan, UT - One year after losing 8-7 to Brigham Young in the RMLC championship
game, the #2 Colorado State Rams reclaimed the RMLC title by beating #5 Colorado in Logan,
UT by the exact same 8-7 score. CSU posted their second win in as many weeks against the
Buffaloes after a 9-6 decision at INVESCO Field at Mile High Stadium in the Rocky Mountain
Lacrosse Showdown last weekend. CSU held a 7-3 lead at one point in the third quarter
and were able to hold off a Buffalo rally that tied the game at 7. In what has become
a recurring theme this season, Tyler Treece (Upper Arlington HS; Columbus, OH) finished
a fast break on a feed from Danny Stevens (Suffern HS; Suffern, NY) with 2:36 left in
the game and the Rams salted away the rest of the time for the victory. Pictures

#2 Colorado State Scores Seven in
Fourth to Defeat #12 Utah in RMLC Semis - 4/28/06
Logan, UT - The #2 Colorado State Rams needed seven fourth period goals
to put away the #12 Utah Utes in a Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference semifinal game on
Friday evening. The Utes scored the first three goals of the game and played their best
game against the Rams since a 5-4 upset over CSU in 2003. Utah led 8-7 at one point in
the fourth quarter before the Rams scored seven of the next eight goals to put the game
away and win 14-10. Pictures of the Utah Semifinal

#2 Colorado State Wins Showdown
Slugfest 9-6 Over #5 Colorado - 4/22/06
Denver, CO - In front of a loud and boisterous crowd of almost 4,000 people,
the #2 Colorado State Rams erased a 3-0 deficit and defeated the #5 Colorado Buffaloes 9-6
at INVESCO Field at Mile High Stadium on Saturday night. The win was the third straight
for the Rams in the annual Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Showdown and it extended their winning
streak over Colorado to 12 games. It also gives CSU the #1 seed in the upcoming RMLC playoffs
by virtue of their out of conference victory over UC-Santa Barbara. Pictures

#6 Brigham Young Upsets #1 Colorado
State 11-8 - 4/14/06
Denver, CO - Playing in the University of Denver's Peter Barton Lacrosse
Stadium, the #1 Colorado State Rams and the #6 Brigham Young University Cougars renewed
one of the best rivalries in the MDIA on a hot Friday afternoon. CSU was not able to hold
onto an 8-5 lead after three quarters and BYU scored six in a row to take home an important
11-8 upset victory. Pictures of the Brigham

#1 Colorado State Crushes #13 Utah
13-3 - 4/9/06
Fort Collins, CO - On a beautiful Sunday afternoon on the campus of Colorado
State University, the #1 Colorado State Rams scored four first quarter goals and got points
from ten different players to put away the visiting #13 Utah Utes. CSU's attack unit combined
for fourteen points as the Rams never trailed en route to their second RMLC victory of the
season. Pictures of Utah Game
#1 CSU Overcomes Slow Start to
Defeat #17 Oakland 14-5 - 4/8/06
Fort Collins, CO - The #1 Colorado State Rams outscored the visiting #17
Oakland Grizzlies 10-2 in the second half to come away with a 14-5 victory on a sunny Saturday

Colorado State Too Much
for Division B Northern Colorado - 3/29/06
Fort Collins, CO - Colorado State's second home game of the year against
the Northern Colorado Bears was held up by a lightening alarm on campus that delayed the
start of the game for about ten minutes. Once the clouds dissipated and the sun came out,
the only storm left was the Colorado State offense as the Rams rained shots on the UNC goal
for much of the first quarter en route to a 5-0 lead after one quarter. CSU scored 11 goals
in the second period to make the halftime score 16-1 against Division B's #13 team. The
Rams outscored the Bears 5-1 in the second half for a 21-2 win. Pictures

Treece and Stevens Score 7
Points Each as CSU Outruns Arizona State 15-6 - 3/25/06
Fort Collins, CO - #1 Colorado State led 7-5 early in the third quarter over
the visiting #20 Arizona State Sundevils before going on a six-goal run that ended the suspense
on a sunny Saturday afternoon in Fort Collins. CSU got a stellar performance from their
attack unit as Tyler Treece (Upper Arlington HS; Columbus, OH) and Danny Stevens (Suffern
HS; Suffern, NY) exploded for seven points a piece while Campbell Diebolt (Central Bucks
East; Downingtown, PA) pitched in with three points as well. While the Sundevils battled
hard throughout the game, CSU simply had too much depth as this physical game wore into
its latter stages. Pictures

used a superb five-point effort from senior attackman Tim Chorey (Algonquin HS, MA) to beat
RMLC rival Brigham Young 7-6 on Saturday afternoon. Though the game did not count towards
any official records, both teams played to win and treated a fairly good-sized crowd of
about 300 people to an entertaining and well-fought contest.

COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY
Colorado State University is located in Fort Collins, Colorado, 55 miles
north of Denver in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Skiing, fishing, mountain biking
and camping are all nearby. CSU includes eight colleges, broken down into 56 departments
of more than 100 different academic programs. The campus is located in the heart of "Fort
Fun." Fort Collins is a college town. It is also a vibrant and growing Colorado community.
THE PLAYERS
The Rams' roster in the 1999 season had 30 out of 35 members from the state of Colorado. Most players were from the greater Denver metropolitan area. The percentage of out-of-state players has increased dramatically since then. In 2004/2005 there were players from Virginia, Minnesota, New York, Oregon, Missouri, Ohio, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Tennessee, and Michigan to go along with the always-strong Colorado nucleus.
ABOUT CSU LACROSSE
Colorado State University men's lacrosse is a member of the United States Lacrosse Men's Division Intercollegiate Association (USL-MDIA) and has taken home national titles in 1999, 2001 and 2003. Within this national organization there are now 12 conferences and almost 180 teams. The Rams compete in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference. CSU has won RMLC championships in 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2004. With two-time MDIA champion Brigham Young, the up-and-coming University of Utah and in-state rival Colorado perrenially in the top 20, the RMLC is one of the most competitive conferences in the country.
THE UNIVERSITY'S COMMITMENT
As a "virtual varsity" program, the lacrosse team needs a solid
foundation inside the university. Club Sports recognizes lacrosse as a major sport now,
and supplies the team with whatever is possible. Questions and comments can be directed
to Karri Smith at CSU. Her direct line is 970-491-2011.
DONATIONS AND FUND RAISING
The CSU High Altitude Lacrosse Camp, held annually in July at Colorado State, has become a large and important fundraiser for CSU lacrosse in the last four years. The camp is staffed largely by CSU players and CSU alumni players.
The CSU Alumni Association is beginning to build a CSU Lacrosse endowment fund. The alums also have created the "Rocky Mountain Showdown", the annual game between MDIA powers CU and CSU. This exciting and important game is held at a neutral site. Last year the game attracted 2500 fans to a high school stadium in a Denver suburb. This year's game will be held in a Denver Metro Area Stadium on Saturday, April 22, 2005 at 7:00 p.m.
Parking cars at athletic events, an annual CSU lacrosse schedule/poster,
and selling team apparel are just some of the other fundraising endeavors that the team
is involved with to generate cash flow for the program, as well as to help individual players
fulfill their financial responsibilities. While the team has some support from the school,
outside donations are crucial to keep the program running. High travel costs make fundraising
a must for the team as the annual overall team expenses have grown to over $120K, or about
20 times more than the university allocates for men's lacrosse. Tax-free donations are accepted
and encouraged.
COSTS
The players for the most part pay ONLY for their own costs for travel and equipment. Costs for a year can range, but $2000-$2500 is about what players are paying in 2005. There are "packages" and pre-payment discounts offered. 2006 will include four out of state trips to be factored into the budget. Two trips to California, the RMLC championships in Logan, UT and the MDIA championships at a location TBA will make up the bulk of the traveling budget for CSU.
The team does get some sponsorship from lacrosse companies, mainly Rock-it Pocket. The players and coaches put on lacrosse clinics and teach lacrosse "classes" in the local junior high schools, which help raise capital for the organization. Activities like these can go to credit the player's "account". Working the High Altitude Summer Camp can earn players credit as well.
COACH FLIP NAUMBURG
In 2005 Coach Naumburg enters his 9th year as head coach at CSU. He graduated
from Colorado College in 1975. During his first 8 years at Colorado State, Coach's record
is 137-28. As owner of Rock-It Pocket, Flip is well established in the lacrosse community.
Naumburg has been a Director of the annual Vail Lacrosse Shootout for the last 34 summers.
This is the biggest lacrosse tournament in the world. As a coach, he has endeavored to harness
all of the lacrosse experience he has gained throughout the years in an effort to put together
the best CSU program in history. At the conclusion of the 1999 campaign, he was named National
USLIA Coach of the Year.
PROGRAM HISTORY
The CSU lacrosse club is over 40 years old, but has grown up tremendously
in the last 7 years. The team became "Road Warriors" beginning in 1998. Going
to other states and playing highly regarded teams has given the Rams opportunity to gain
much-needed national exposure and play more highly competitive opponents. It has also evolved
into part of what might be called "program Pride". Going to different universities,
and the experiences gained by being on the road together are a large part of the overall
experience at CSU.
