CSU Decimates Northern Colorado in Preparation for Div. III Colorado College
Greeley, CO

By Garrett Fitzgerald
February 23, 2005

Colorado State continued their domination of the University Northern Colorado Wednesday with a 22-5 victory in Greeley, Colorado. The Rams wasted no time taking down the UNC Bears with a ten goal first quarter on the way to a 15-3 halftime lead. With the win the Rams move to 5-0 on the season.

UNC was outgunned at every position, as CSU outshot the Bears 53-10. Once again, senior captain Nick Stanitz-Harper (Eaglecrest HS, CO) got things going with the first goal for CSU. Stanitz-Harper recorded four points in the game with two goals and two assists. Sophomore Shay Cunningham (Algonquin HS, MA), had a superb performance despite playing with the flu and scored thee goals and passed off three assists.

CSU had seven different players with at least two goals, freshmen David Ford (Air Academy, CO) and Dylan Bowman (Fairview HS, CO) continue to impress as they both notched the first hat tricks of their budding Colorado State careers.

Defensively State would begin the game front of Tyson Ehinger (Heritage, CO) who made his first start in goal for the Rams. Ehinger played the first half before giving way to fellow freshman Adam Taylor (Air Academy, CO) who finished up the game. Every defender for Colorado State saw time in the game led by senior president Jason Newel (Overland HS, CO) who had four ground balls, one takeaway and several big hits.

The Rams now look to what should be one of the toughest games on their schedule, as they clash with Division III Colorado College on Saturday the 26th. Last year for the first time ever CSU beat CC, in a tremendous game in which State outscored CC 11-6. Colorado College will undoubtedly be a good measuring stick for a relatively untested Colorado State squad.

Notes:

- Matt Reiss (Sycamore HS, OH) junior LSM, a converted attackmen had the first goal of the season and his first goal with a longpole.

CSU vs CU
On Saturday, April 16, at 7:00 pm the big game will be played at the neutral site of Shea Stadium, on the south side of Denver, in Highlands Ranch. Last year the game, which is and was coordinated and promoted by the CSU Ram Lacrosse Alumni Association, drew almost 3000 fans. Mark your calendars.
