CSU Lacrosse Announces 2005 Captains
Fort Collins, CO

By Garrett Fitzgerald
February 7, 2005

The 2005 Colorado State Men's Lacrosse team recently announced their 2005 season captains. Led by two All-American seniors, the four captains will head up a talented '05 squad. Defensemen Ryan Price (Arapahoe HS, CO) and Kellin Bershinsky (Fort Collins HS, CO), fifth-year senior attackman Nick Stanitz-Haper (Eaglecrest HS, CO) were named captains at the beginning of the fall. Teammates also elected junior Michael Murphy (Lake Oswego HS, OR), a speedy two-way midfielder, to serve as captain this year at the beginning of the spring season.

Senior Ryan Price, a 6'0" 215 lbs defenseman, will be a four-year starter for the Rams. Ryan is the leader of the CSU defense and is a two-time all-conference selection. He was a second team All-American in 2004. Intelligence is the strong point of Price's game. With an excellent work ethic and strong stick skills, he will lead the Ram defense in the 2005 season.
Senior Nick Stanitz-Harper, 6'3" 215 lbs, is a three-year starter at attack and has had significant contributions during his time in Fort Collins. Stanitz-Harper, a two-time all conference selection was named an All-American for the first time last season. In a 2004 season where he tallied 59 goals he will undoubtedly be a large concern for opposing team's defensive units. Nick has had a great career so far at Colorado State, during his time he has scored 123 goals for a total 160 points and currently stands as the team's sixth all time leading scorer. Harper will be counted on to solidify the young attack, which will have two first year starters.
Junior Kellin Bershinsky, 6' 3" 230 lbs, has been a starter since his freshmen year and is the most athletic defensemen on the 2005 roster. A natural athlete, Bershinsky came into his own last season and ended the year as indisputably the team's best cover defensemen. His hard work and tenacity were rewarded with first team All-Tournament honors during the 2004 National Championships in St. Louis, Missouri and his teammates will look to him for inspiration in key spots this year.
Junior Michael Murphy, 5'8" 165lbs, is a solid two-way midfielder that impacts the game with his determination and fearlessness. A scrappy multi-talented middie, Murphy is a force for the Rams between the restraining lines. His natural speed and ability to scoop any ground ball on the field and his work ethics make him an excellent on and off the field leader.

The preseason #2 ranked Rams opens their season in Texas, February 11th. The opening weekend of the CSU season will feature games against Auburn, #13 Texas A&M, #20 Texas, and Texas Tech. The first home game for the Rams comes March 5th when the team takes on the University of Denver's club team.
