WERE # 2
Ive been chanting my new mantra all morning, "Were #2. Were #2."
All that leads up to the national championships of college club lacrosse has been said and
done. Both CSU men and CSU women will land in Minneapolis as # 2 seeds in their respective
tournaments.
Our crack investigative staff was all over the computer after practice yesterday, waiting
for the final poll and the Minnesota seeds to surface on line. I was personally all over
my dinner at the time. At one point they (cracked staffers) thought we (CSU men) had been
voted the #3 seed, and there was some not-so-happy campers calling me on my cell phone.
That (#3) was apparently a momentary mistake made by the Home Office in Atlanta, and after
a few pushes of the "refresh" link on computer screen, and when eventually the
cyber dust had settled, we came to rest as the #2 seed.
GOPHER IT
Our opponent next Tuesday will be the Minnesota Gophers. They are the Upper Midwest Conference
Champions. I do not know much about them. My approach is ONE EVERYTHING AT A TIME.
Lacrosse is, as always, all about how we play, and not whom we are playing. What it is supposed
to look like on paper or whatever is of no concern to me.
CHANGE IS GOOD
I have not written much about the loss to BYU the other day. That doesnt mean I havent
thought about it a great deal. Overall, the truth is that my thought train moved quickly
from the "awe shucks" track to spending significant time inside the what-can-I-learn-from-this
station. I am interested in right now right now. I have two or three points of emphasis
for us, and I am going hard on and with them.
I am also madly (and happily) working on certain kinds of design changes in hopes of reinforcing
the basic structure of our little pyramid of potential.
DEAR DIARY
I apologize. This is the time of year I often write the most, as in almost every day. I
think I have put all my recent "journal" energy into relating directly to team
and players. It is not enough right now for them to "read it in the Journal".
I have been my own version of Dr. Jeckyll since Saturday. "We" are in the lab,
testing little theories. Yesterday was a really good practice where we tested a few new
versions of a few things.
All the new theories from the working weekend have not become instant TNT, that's for sure,
but you've got to start somewhere, and I am currently buried in the "fix it" zone.
By the way, I do take (good) suggestions from time to time.
