PHASE II (of who knows how many) SHOULD BE A GOODY

Our season begins to build toward a California/Utah crescendo, one that will show up to the max in mid March. We start the preparation tonight. I am feeling somewhat like we are a little behind, again, because last week was more or less useless. But what the hay anyway. Besides, even though I feel that way, I have no idea who or what exactly we are behind, or precisely how far we might be off "the pace", at least not yet. That’s what makes it so exciting this time of year. That anticipation and sometimes fear of the unknown thing is a great buzz/motivator for me.

It looks like we will be able to go outside some this week, but that will come about only with a tiny bit of mercy from the weather Gods as far as I can see in that troublesome little 5-day forecast they all do so poorly here in Colorado. Anyway, that (no snow) would help us immensely to prepare for Colorado College. I’m not sure if the Tigers have played games yet, but they scrimmaged with both Air Force and D.U., and both of them are Division I programs. That’s got to help your early season team to wake up and smell the coffee, because that is top level competition. This took place up at the USAFA a couple of Saturdays ago. I should and could have gone and taped it, but I did not.

The Tigers of CC have good players, good facilities, good coaching, and they will surely be chomping at the "payback" bit, anxious to get a run at us.

HOME DEPOT MANIA

The word is definitely getting out about the events including and surrounding our game with UCSB in Los Angeles on March 12. I was told they were expecting to draw 8-10,000 for the first four, that is the 2 games involving the four teams Georgetown, Syracuse, North Carolina, and Notre Dame. We will be part of that audience, too. I am hopeful that we get a significant amount of fans to our game as well, though obviously not those kind of numbers. Our game starts a little earlier than the DI boys, and won't finish before they start on another field nearby. It all should be very interesting.

I CAN SEE FOR MILES AND MILES

There was big excitement at my house this morning, perhaps just to make up for having no game this weekend. My brother-in-law accidentally left his 1990 Jeep Wagoneer in neutral, and it rolled down and off the "driveway". This could happen to anyone, even someone like me, but fortunately this time it wasn't me.

Now this is something you really don’t want to do at my house, because I CAN see for miles and miles, and a car might roll that far too. It could and would rumble downward into the vast deer and antelope playing area until hitting some kind of natural immovable force. In this case it was fortunately (?) a few rocks/boulders and then an evergreen grove only about 50 yards down the hill.

AAA Man (Young, big, strong, and working on Sunday) winched it up and out of said predicament and he did it inch by inch. It took just long enough (5 minutes over the 30 minute limit) to cost the extra hour charge of $125 that would not have anything to do with my AAA coverage. I am sure this particular time mandate came from the other end of the cell phone when he called in for further instructions after seeing what he first saw upon his arrival. It was not that pretty from a towing point of view. Oh well, all’s well that ends well. It did not end that great for a couple of young trees, however. Somehow a flat tire and a few dents seem to be the extent of damage to the Jeep.
