NOT THAT ARLINGTON
We are in Texas, near Dallas somewhere, but I have not gotten my bearings. There is a Sonic next to the hotel, which will keep it easy for me to find my way home at the end of the day. All that I have learned so far is that they (people at Sonic) do not understand the words, "Green chili cheeseburger". She thought I was an idiot and that I wanted some kind of green cheese or something. Upon further review I think they are called jalapeno cheeseburgers down here.
I have not seen the fields we will be playing on, but that is the next scouting trip here in a minute.
We had a throw around at 10:00 this morning. Everyone is settled in. I'm sure that the fact that so many of us "vets" are used to and enjoy the road so much makes it easier for the young and new players to feel that way, too. Things had a very comfortable feel out there this morning, albeit just a little team catch and throw at the nearby city park.
BRIDGE TO THE FUTURE
Personally, I am building toward tonight. I am not trying to over-think or project myself into this game. I want to do that thing I preach to them so much about, which is to let the game come to me. I now have come to have faith in our ability to play as a team, so I just want to think about what I can do to help us get acclimated to the processes and routine of the actual game situation.
I believe in our ability to think as a team, I really do. I know I will in all likelihood have to endure more unforced errors than I want, but ultimately there is nothing new about that. The muted pastel tones somewhere near a technicolor vision of perfection that I have in my mind is what I continue to search for on the field.
I already have developed some trust in and for this team. I look eagerly forward to tonight and to seeing what kind of team lessons we have learned so far.
