ROCKY MOUNTAIN WAY
Today was one of those inexplicably warm and beautiful days that can happen in Colorado any time, even in the middle of say, January. We took full advantage by having our second practice in less than 20 hours this afternoon. We used a public access field at a local elementary school, where the high school team has its practices. They don't start for another month. Have paint will travel, and I faked a full field set up in about twenty minutes. There were goals on site. After a little expert net repair by Goalie Boy we were good to go.
CHOMPING AT THE BIT
Last night we worked inside at The Edge for our first 2005 practice, and there were some 50 players there. Today we had about 32 guys for the impromptu get together. It wasn't everyone (who was there today), and it wasn't all that pretty (actually it was pretty ugly), but we got some full field action in, and right now I'll take the simple act of being outside and on a field in numbers greater than twenty, and having a window of opportunity to simulate reality (controlled scrimmage). We are in the process of breeding team familiarity right now, and any little help toward that end is greatly appreciated.
THE COUNTDOWN HAS BEGUN
We have 23 days before our first game, which will take place in Arlington, Texas, near Dallas. I have been assured by one resident Texan that the weather on that weekend will be rainy and miserable as some sort of Texas tradition, but we are in theory going down there to get perhaps somewhat warmer weather than we tend to get here this time of year, and to get 4 early games played as well. Since it is 65 degrees here today on January 19, who knows what the weather might bring. Our trend has often been to attract bad weather on the road, so we need to be ready for anything.
HOUSTON, WE MIGHT HAVE A PROBLEM
I have scheduled us to play 4 games in three days in Texas, and on the middle day I (like an idiot) set it up so that we will play two ranked teams in one afternoon. Didn't I already learn my lesson two years ago by creating a similar scenario like this where a completely unranked team (Utah) was able to beat us? Oh well.
