CALIFORNIA DREAMIN
I got an information packet today (and a bill) for the March 12 game we are to play at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles, against the MDIA National Champions, UCSB. This is a new multiplex facility that was recently built by the Los Angeles Galaxy of the Professional Soccer League. It is actually in Carson, which is not exactly part of the Hollywood Hills. I have driven through Carson several times. What I most remember is that it was the home of and landing site for the Good Year blimp fleet.
Division I Lacrosse powerhouses Georgetown, North Carolina, Notre Dame, and defending NCAA Division I National Champion Syracuse will be the feature teams playing at The Home Depot Center that day. A bunch of California high school teams will be playing as well. It will all be called "The FIRST FOUR, (05) A Mens Elite Division I College Lacrosse Invitational". They could have added, "And Some Other Stuff" to that somewhat crowded moniker to include the rest of us. Im sure our little game will not be the same draw as the D1ers from Back East, but hopefully some will come to see the CSU Rams do battle with the mighty Gauchos on California soil.
This might be a great opportunity for USLIA/MDIA fans to show their numbers on a national stage (sort of). I hope that everyone out there on the coast, even the many California lacrosse fans and players who love to see us lose, will come out for this one.
We will get to see some high level Division I lacrosse up close and personal, which we dont get to do often enough. All in all it should be quite an afternoon.
