Rams Dominate Aggies 21-6
Fort Collins, CO

By Alex Smith
April 16, 2004

The #2 Colorado State Rams got their third league win of the season against visiting Utah State on a beautiful night in Fort Collins, CO. The Rams scored six goals in each the first and second quarters to take a commanding 12-0 halftime lead en route to a 21-6 win over the Aggies. Thirteen different Rams scored on the evening as everyone on the roster got significant minutes as early as the first half.

In their second to last home game of the season, the Rams came out firing. Nick Stanitz-Harper (Eaglecrest HS, CO) scored the first goal of the game only 36 seconds in to open the floodgates. CSU would have five different goal scorers in the first period of play and eight goal scorers in the first half. Kurt Bisnette (Hinsdale Central HS, IL) made his second start of the year in place of Pete Jokisch and recorded 3 saves in his half of play.

Tim Farquhar (Collegiate HS, VA) led the Rams with 2 goals and 3 assists, which tied him with Utah State’s Kyle Fiat (4 goals, 1 assist) for game high point honors. Tim Chorey (Algonquin HS, MA) and Stanitz-Harper also registered four points for the home squad.

CSU’s younger players got some much needed experience against the Aggies. Jack Genadek (Roseville Area HS, MN) recorded five groundballs, second on the team to Dave Clark’s (Cherry Creek HS, CO) seven. Clark won 16 of 19 face-offs. Dan Godard (West Lake HS, TX), Reggie Hicks (Gateway HS, CO), Tom Fender (Douglas County HS, CO), Matt Pantaleo (Golden HS, CO) and Sean Fitzgerald (Regis Jesuit HS, CO) were all solid on defense once the regulars began filtering out of the game.

Next up for the Rams (17-1 overall; 3-0 RMLC) is a crucial game with #7 Colorado. The winner of Saturday night’s game will claim the top seed in the RMLC playoffs. No matter what the outcome, CU and CSU will not meet in the first round of the RMLC playoffs, which will be held in Provo, UT in two weeks. Utah State (7-3; 1-2) has an off day on Saturday and will play the Buffaloes on Sunday. Then the Aggies will face a showdown with the Utah Utes that will determine the fourth seed in the RMLC playoffs.

Game Notes:
- CSU won 24 of 30 face-offs on the game.
- Utah State won the fourth quarter 4-1, but CSU’s young bucks still won the second half 9-6.
- Colorado State’s goalies combined for five saves, marking the first time this season that the opposition has scored more goals then shots saved.
- Colorado State will finish its home season next weekend against Lindenwood (MO).
