CSU LACROSSE READY TO DEFEND CHAMPIONSHIP
Rams Travel to Tempe, AZ for Two Games This Weekend

By Alex Smith
February 4, 2004

After a successful fall season, the #1 ranked Colorado State men’s lacrosse team is finally ready to kick off the spring season with a trip to Tempe, AZ for games with the Arizona Laxcats and Arizona State Sundevils of the WCLL. The Rams also traveled to Arizona last year to battle the Laxcats in Tucson. Arizona begins the season ranked #14.

Arizona and Colorado State have built a steady rivalry over the past couple of years. This will be the third regular season meeting between the Laxcats and Rams in recent history. In 2003, Colorado State held off Arizona in the waning moments for a 6-5 road victory in their first game of the year. In 2001, the Rams hosted the Laxcats and posted an impressive 26-7 win.

Colorado State and Arizona State have never met in recent history.

2004 is a season of promise for Colorado State, who are coming off their third National Championship in five years. Captains Mark Plonkey (Golden HS, CO), Nick Stanitz-Harper (Eaglecrest HS, CO) and Phil Eichhorn (Rangeview HS, CO) lead the Rams in their first games of the season.

Tempe will be the first of several big regular season road trips for Colorado State in 2004. In late February, the team will make a two-day trip to Colorado Springs to take on Texas A&M and Division III Colorado College. Then, in early March the Rams will take a ten-day odyssey through the Pacific Northwest that will see six games. April brings the Michigan Invitational for perhaps the most challenging three-day stretch of the year when the Rams play three ranked teams.

Colorado State is also preparing for a historic box lacrosse game against the Colorado Buffaloes just before the NLL All-Star Game on February 22, 2004. The game will take place at the Pepsi Center in Denver as part of the All-Star Game festivities. For ticket information, please visit www.csulacrosse.com.
