CSU  24  UTAH U.  4

We played in the afternoon semi-final and pretty much manhandled the Utes, 24-4.   They held the ball for most of the first ninety seconds of the contest, but didn't see a whole lot of it after that.  We played well, and pretty much right from the get go.  It was 9-1 after one, and 16-1 at the half.  I was very pleased at the break, and I told them so.  I also told them to keep the hammer down and the fire up.  I couldn't think of anything we weren't doing well, and that would never have anything to do with the score, unless, of course the score reflects the truth about how we played, and today that was the case.

Everyone in uniform played.  By the end of the game many players were relaxing in folding chairs, basking in the sun and the moment, while only about half of our 33 were still playing.

Two starters, Harper (#2) and Greeson (#4) did not dress due to injuries.  Hopefully we will have Nick (#2) ready for tomorrow.  Tim Chorey (#16) had five goals and an assist, and has been making me want to start starting him.  He's a freak, a regular Mike Roth (#13 of yore), and I just like to watch him do his freak thing.  Three others, Matt Disney (#24), Tim Farquhar (current #13), and Pat Bird (#1) all scored 4 goals each.  Others, including Kelten Johnson (#7), had multiple points.

Bird (#1) is starting to shoot jump shots. Think of all the metaphorical possibilities with that combo. This kid might be a freshman, but the emphasis is starting to be on the MAN part. He is growing up just fine, and he is about ready to leave the nest.

We rode the hell out of the boys in red, making it hard for them to just get the ball to their attackers.  I am starting to like the way we are riding these days.   I like attacking the game in the middle of the field, with controlling face-offs and riding hard.  Right now it would seem that these are two of our strength areas.

C.U.  10  BYU  9 OT

C.U. won the nightcap semi-final game in overtime.  We get the Buffs (again) tomorrow at 4:00, same time we played today. It sounds like that one was a great game, the Cougars vs. the Buffs.

BYE BYE BIRDIE

Most of us, including me, did not stay and watch that late game.  Sometimes I am just as happy to not see the team that we are about to meet.  I would almost rather work off my fantasy of what we are up against, as opposed to "breaking down" the other team in person or on tape.  Alex (assistant coach) did bring home a few bits of tid for me from the game.  He went. I love my assistant coaches.  Maybe I am prejudiced by the fact that they are CSU graduates, but it really feels like we as a team, and we as a coaching staff are all on the same page right now.

ALL IS WELL IN THE HOUSE OF RAM

I like where we are and can't wait for the challenges of tomorrow.  They (Buffs) will be coming after us, convinced that they finally have the right stuff to beat the Rams.  C.U. is a confident and improving team.  Guess what, they will be meeting another one for the RMLC Championship at South Field in Provo tomorrow afternoon.  We will be the ones wearing white.

DATE NIGHT IN UTAH

This date (April 30?) is somehow connected with the action of dating and actively pursuing a life mate here in Middle Mormonia.  I'm not sure what it all is, but there seems to be this frenzied "matching up" going on around here right now.  Not only did this "holiday" make it impossible for us to book a team dinner at any local restaurant tonight after the game, but truthfully it all was a little scary.  A bunch of us did end up at T.G.I.Friday's, and it was almost like the family dinner I had wanted.
