UCSB 10 CSU 8 (15-1 overall record)
BLEMISHED
We had a very long day, the first day of Daylight Savings Time. We were outplayed by the Gauchos from Santa Barbara,, and we lost 10-8. We were down early, but led 5-4 at half, and 7-6 after 3 quarters before a disastrous 4th quarter sealed our fate. Right now it feels like a great big zit on the end of my nose. It makes me feel ugly and I am not quite sure how to proceed. Should I "pop" it, or should I patiently let it heal? I guess I will sleep on it before I do anything.
I do know one thing, and that is that now that we are "mortal", I am going to go with the ones who come out and do the hard work. There are a few of us who aren't doing enough, and I might even be one of them. We have now seen a reflection of ourselves that we had not yet experienced. Losing was brand new. It had been a year or whatever. Now let's see what we are really made of. There is no way to get big time better as a team at this point in the season unless individuals do some extra work to bring some or all of their game to a new place. I will lay down that challenge tomorrow
WHERE WAS IT?
The game was a good game to watch. Whatever IT is, though, we did not have today. Maybe Santa Barbara kept us from showing IT. I am not very good at this losing stuff. It didn't feel very good earlier, and still doesn't now.
SHAKIN' ALL OVER
I did, however, grip every hand and look every single Gaucho in the eye at the game's conclusion, and I congratulated them for a game well played. I don't recall many of them showing me the same courtesy when we last played them in St. Louis last May, but that's okay. They were gracious winners today.
I have lost before. It is often a great motivator for me.
