A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM

As the first quarter became the second tonight we trailed 2-0, and we couldn't play catch well enough to get much of a look at the goal for those entire 15 minutes.  Then, on top of that, it became 3-0 not long thereafter.  The Michigans had come to play.  They were playing a clean, emotional, and swarming style of game.  One could almost feel the confidence growing inside that building with the 1000 or whatever Wolverine fans, and you could almost hear us doubting ourselves.   If I am not painting a very pretty picture then my meaning is clear. 

At times like these I tend to become very discriminating and exact about whom I want in the game, personnel speaking.  That was truly the case tonight.  When we get down 3-0 I also think my #1 job becomes cheerleader.  That's what I did tonight.  We started to get the hang of the game and the ball at some point in the second, and with Harper's buzzer beater at half we had tied it at 3-3.  I thought that was a huge goal and portrayed at halftime as such, but then the Wolves came out and got the first one to make the score 4-3.  After that we took the game over and outscored them 8-0 to win going away.  Actually, after they took a 3-0 lead early in that second quarter, we outscored them 11-1 for a lengthy time period that covered most of the next 45 minutes.

I am pleased with the way we held together and turned a potential train wreck into an eventual safe passage, but meanwhile I was disappointed that we came out with no energy after I spent all week talking about guarding against that very thing.  All season up until now, we have answered almost every goal that has been scored on us all year by answering with one of our own, like right after, but tonight we had no answers for those early Michigan scores.  Ultimately I think that it is very difficult to sustain an endless peak.  We are in a part of the season that we need to fight our way through.  I will write more tomorrow.
