I LOVE THE SMELL OF BACON IN THE MORNING
How can I make it all (the season) new and appetizing, like the sizzling sound and enticing smell of bacon cooking? Even though I rarely eat it, I crave bacon when that aroma hits my face. I would like the players to covet what is on our plate as we head into the second half of our 2004 schedule. I gave them (and me) a day off today, and tomorrow will be practice light. I want them to do their own thing, whatever it may take to get themselves fresh and ready for more.
I HOPE WE ARE WORTHY
This year has its own kind of challenges with early success and high expectations. I worry about peaking early, but Im not sure what to do about all that. Once I make the game schedule, I just coach what I see.
In the past we (CSU) often seemingly had the need to create a situation where we put ourselves back in the role of the underdog after starting a season at #1 in the polls or whatever. It was as if we required some external disrespect before we looked in the mirror. At times it might have even appeared as if it took a few losses to motivate us to improve. Well, I want us to be the overdog, and I want us to back it up by playing hard and continually going farther as a team. I have always gone only for us to be the best team we can be, and to never be satisfied with wherever we are. This has little to do with winning and losing. Those things will often take care of themselves.
Success doesnt spoil me. I haven't time for that. I just want more and better. To me it truly is all about "how you play the game". Here we go. It is now the second half, and time to go get a little bacon to bring home.
WE CAME THROUGH PHASES #1 and #2 UNFAZED, BUT PERHAPS A TAD GLAZED
I know we are tired. The next period is all about healing up, and putting in one or two more wrinkles, once again seeking freshness. Ill be interested to feel the "team vibe" tomorrow.
