CSU 10 SONOMA STATE 6
We played a "gut check" kind of game today. We were challenged by a great Sonoma team and we stood up to the swell of resistance and prevailed, as they say. We did, in fact, trail the game 3-2 for a minute in the second quarter. I believe that was the first time that we had been behind in a very, very long time, like maybe since last fall. We got a little rattled for a second, but we handled. It wasn't long before we climbed on top at 4-3.
I think that this was a great opportunity for "Noma" to beat us. We were tired from playing the night before. They were tired from a bus ride. I'm thinking that took the bounce out of one or two of our steps, and I feared it would put a little extra spring in theirs. They (SSU) looked poised and ready as always from the get go. We did score the first one on a coast to coast "Birdie" (#1), and led 2-1 after one. I was informed that we won each quarter by one goal to achieve the 4-goal difference. There is something I like about that. This was a game very much like the CC game, although we played our best game so far against Colorado College, and that includes today.
I am informed that we trailed Texas A&M 1-0 two weeks ago. Perhaps the ensuing 18-2 barrage before the half made that fact slip my mind.
The game was entertaining to watch. These two teams always match-up really well. They love to dodge from the top and we love to play teams that dodge. It's always a dogfight with the Seawolves, and I characterize this as a terrific rivalry where the two teams have the utmost respect for one another. Just the same, I root for us every time.
FAMILY - FIELD AND BENCH -
This was yet another team win. So many contributed, and offensively it was all spread out. Kellin Bershinsky (#29) is becoming such a fine defenseman. The whole defense was absolutely stellar, turning away a good offensive team try and time again. When they (defense) needed help, Pete (#3) the goalie was there. He made every big save today, all the ones that we really needed at big moments in the game.
Harper (#2) had five goals, and Kelten (#7) had 6 assists. We are scoring an awful lot of assisted goals these days.
I might go pray that all goes well tonight, because I have relinquished the reins so that "they won't have to break all the rules". I have given up control amid a plea for sanity and civilized behavior. Lord help me now.
