THE WEATHER BAZAAR

Yesterday, Thursday was one of those most impressive Colorado days. It had it all. The day warmed quickly, one could have played 18 balmy holes before practice (I think Dr. Ron did). As practice began, so did the light "rain turning to snow later," as they say. Later was actually sooner.

It got so miserable so fast that I did something I rarely if ever do when I have a chance to have a real practice. I remarked to the team that the weather was horrible (I said it somewhat differently), and that I would not stand there and pretend that it wasn’t (like I usually do). So, I decided that we would just flat get to the scrimmaging, which we did. No one got killed or maimed that I know of. It was somewhat fun. Everyone got soaked (I took off my pants to drive home), and we were gone by 5:00, a full 30 minutes before the actual supposed end of practice, at which time you could already hear farther than you could see. The forecast called for flurries. Not hardly. Still, I feel blessed so far. We have played all of our scheduled games, and it is March now. We are gone most of this month, so after this weekend fields will be someone else’s problem for the next few weeks.

ST. LOUIS BLUES

Our next game is tomorrow, however. I hope we get enough snow melt. It’s supposed to be 55 degrees by then. We have about an inch and a half of wet, white blanket. I have no idea if we will be able to play. Right now the field thing is my potential problem. Our opponent, Washington University of St. Louis, is probably getting on their bus at this moment. They will drive the 18 hours or so to Boulder, and then drive back to the Fort tomorrow to play us. This is almost de ja vu all over again. Two years ago Minnesota Duluth was on the way out via bus on the very same weekend in early March, but were forced to turn back before they got halfway here. That was a big freeze deal. This is wet snow, and it is warming as I write. I hope we can get this game in up here. I have no idea where to go for an alternate field. I think we burned at least one of those bridges last year…..
