IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME COMING
IT'S GOING TO BE A LONG TIME GONE (Crosby, Stills,& Nash)
I have never left home for two weeks before. I continue to revisit the nagging thought that this is too long to be gone. Meanwhile, the weather is pretty nice down here, and I have this little fantasy that I am storing up warmth for the cold days to come, like a squirrel gathering nuts for the winter.
I am 4 days from the Fort. We are scheduled to get back on Sunday night. Then on Thursday I turn around and fly to Philadelphia for the Lacrosse Coaches Convention.
MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE
During a game I hate to turn my back to the action on the field, because right or wrong I'm thinking that something bad can happen if I don't pay attention even for an instant. I suppose it is foolish to think that while I am standing on the sidelines I can control things on the field that are more or less outside of my control, but I think that way anyway.
Right now I feel that way about our team on Christmas break. I worry that bad things can happen when I'm not watching close enough, and being in the Caribbean certainly qualifies as being out of touch. What more has changed besides those things I already know about? This would be the not-so-great part of coaching at the college CLUB level.
