WHAT A DIFFERENCE A WEEK CAN MAKE

We had the alumni game yesterday. "Us" youngun's took the game over for long periods of the time. We won going away 17-6. We also "broke down" some on defense. In fact there were some defensive breakdowns by us that brought me close to rage. It was by far the best alumni team ever.

My message to this team, and especially the younger players who may not know me as well is the following: If you think I get psychotic about preparing to play our alumni, imagine how I get before a BYU or Sonoma State.

Many good thngs happened in the game. In the course of this one I made more statements about "the way it's going to be" to individuals as well as to the team than I had in a long time. Some were subtle, and some were right there for all to see. Either way it was a busy week for the "Fixer" coach, because after last week's scrimmage I felt like I was the "owner of a broken team". I now feel true and renewed excitement for this young group of whippersnappers.

I am coming to like this team and working with them very much. This is a huge step for me. They are coming together.

We improved so much in the last week that watching the Alumni game on Sunday was like watching a completely different team than the one that played in the game I had endured just 7 days earlier.

I have many things to say about the last week and weekend. I will no doubt edit what I have just written as well. Right now I am a tired camper. Good night.
