USLIA National tournament - St. Louis - Quarterfinal
CSU 12 Texas A&M 9
NO REST FOR THE WEARY
We were in a dogfight today, challenged from the get go. A&M showed heart and team in a way that perhaps I didn't expect. Meanwhile we continue to Rollerball. As if we didn't have enough debilitating injuries, we still have managed to accumulate more. There are only a few left who do not limp from one game all the way until the adrenaline kicks in for the next one. These are the ones that can still play. The others now "help" me coach. The refs were getting on me today for having too many assistant coaches. Well, they were not in uniform, but they are all simply our injured players. I like having them there with me. They (refs) don't like me to have them there. It is not professional looking enough. I grant you that we look more motley than your average "staff", and I'm not sure if just putting them all in the same style shirt would help, but we am what we am, and that's all we am.
Thomas Robinson scored six goals today. Thomas, you are a very useful midfielder.
We have played early games both days. Tomorrow is again at noon. I don't get it. I always thought that being a high seed was a good thing, and got you later start times. Apparently this is not the case. Last year it seemed like I had nothing but time to muse and write stuff in here. This year I just run from here to there. I'm either getting bad news from the trainers or I'm off to dinner and a meeting or whatever. Then, I have to try to get to sleep early so I can get up early and get them going. It seems like this time I have no time.
YOU WANT HOW MUCH?
They are charging to get info on our tournament on line. I absolutely hate that. It's $20 for people like my mother to get the scores from this one tournament that until now had nothing to do with money or "revenue". I think they are going to charge people to get in for the championship game. My idea runs more towards paying people to come and get a look at all this rather than to charge them to get in. It should make for a nice small crowd on Saturday. We couldn't get large crowds for free, so what makes them think St. Louis is going to line up to pay $5 to get in? Whatever.
So, in my own small way I doth protest. I am going to post right here, the winners in the championship bracket, and I am going to do it for free. What a guy I am. Sonoma spanked Simon Fraser and will play us tomorrow at noon. Santa Barbara ripped Florida for the right to meet BYU in the other semifinal. That one is at 4:00, a nice respectable winner's bracket time. The semifinals include the same four teams as last year, except we switched opponents for 2003. Last year we played UCSB in the semifinals.
This is amazing. I have no idea what the grand cosmic plan is, and that's what keeps me going every day. I wonder if I might need some mirrors if I expect us to pull this all off. I need to go now, so I can see if I can hatch us some extra hope, or perhaps to think of something that I have not yet thought of that will lift us up, like a feather in the breeze, and prepare us for this next test.
