ROLL UP FOR THE MYSTERY TOUR – STEP RIGHT THIS WAY

The CC coach called me yesterday to tell me that they were committed to playing us on Saturday. Word was they already had 4-5 inches down there, but they were going to drag old Washburn Field and could we play later, say at 2:30? They wanted extra time for it to dry out. Okay, and without a better plan we all jumped in our cars anyway, to drive the two hours to Colorado Springs and our "home away from home" , the Amerisuites, this time Colorado Springs style. I had planned to spend the night there to really make it a road game mentality, and I didn’t want us to have to hurry down the same morning as the game, and for the 1:00 scheduled start. Even though 1:00 was now going to be 2:30 I said, "Go". I like it when we are on the road anyway.

We all got in safely last night and had a good and uneventful night. This morning we continentaled at 9:00, and then went over to CC at 10:00. They had dragged the field and it didn’t look too bad. We had a small workout at the little astro-turf room the college has, the very same one I warmed up in when I was in college there. It felt good to be in that "room". As we were leaving, the coach told me that now he had secured the turf field at the Air Force Academy, and that we would play after the AFA vs Siena game there, sometime about 4:00. He didn’t want to mess up his field any more than it already is. Is that possible? Oh well. We would play at 4:00. Okay. As long as we play, "It’s all good".

I’m thinking this field here at CC doesn’t look too bad, and the sun was out, but off we go, back to the hotel. We ate, relaxed a bit, and then checked out. We headed toward the Academy. As soon as we got on the highway I-25 to head north it became a blizzard. As we pulled into the Academy, my cell phone went off for the 87th time. It was the coach from CC who had heard from the officials (refs) that it was snowing at the academy (no kidding), and that they were shoveling lines in between quarters of the Division I match-up that had already started. We got there, and true that. It was a mess of snow. Now they (CC) wanted to cancel or postpone to another day when we will have to drive down there at our own expense again. The truth is we should have played at 1:00 at CC like we were originally going to. We could have played. As it is I am sitting here doing this. We didn’t get a game. We didn’t even get frequent flyer miles.

For the record, we were ready to play, either place, and anytime, and eventually it didn’t happen at all. Even so, on the way home I was feeling pleased about the team, and how ready to play I felt we were, in spite of the appearance that perhaps things haven’t really been going our way lately. In terms of outside things we have no control over, we are in free-fall. The chute will open and somewhere soon we will catch some breaks.

THANK YOU SIR! MAY I HAVE ANOTHER?

Well, it (parachute) certainly didn’t open later the same day (today). The ride home was mostly snow-free. Then, when I got off on Harmony in Fort Collins to head home, the other storm, the one coming from the north (not to be confused with the ones from the south) was in full snow go. It is currently a day that brings to mind "The Shining" . All I need is Jack Nicholson with an axe running around looking for ME to complete my little horror film here. There is six inches at my house, and no doubt 4 or more on the field. In a nutshell we are screwed for our game with Illinois tomorrow. All I can say is that I’m looking for a miracle here to get the game in tomorrow. My greatest hope is that they (Illinois) got to play CU somewhere today so that they at least get one game on their little odyssey.

This is how I feel about this journal right now: Never has one man written so much about so little. Can't we all just play lacrosse?
