Colorado School of Mines Tournament

Saturday, September 21st
Location:
Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO
Game Schedule:
University of Colorado at 10:30 AM
Western State College at Noon
University Northern Colorado at 1:30 PM
About:
One-day tournament
Game Report:
CSU 7, CU 5 - 6 different goal scorers. Only Stanitz-Harper had 2. We led 6-2 with 12 minutes remaining, and then had to hold off yet another furious late Buff rally.
CSU 11, Western State College 4 - 3 goals for rookie Jon Carpenter
CSU 17, UNC 4 - 16 points for our starting attack - It looked like a "face-off and fast break" drill before I called off the dogs early in the 2nd half.
54 players played for CSU on this day.

Notes from the 4+ hour RMILL Fall Meeting
* 6 teams now in Division A and six in Division B. Fort Lewis and Utah Valley State College moved down. UNC and Boise State moved up.
* Weber State and Univ. Southern Colorado are out of the league
The A division is made up of:
Colorado State
Brigham Young
Colorado University
Utah U.
U Northern Colorado
Boise State U.
* Western State put in a proposal to have the RMILL Championships in Gunnison come April. I quickly put in a motion not to have them there. I want them closer to home (it is seven hours away). This is crucial to my travel "budget". We put on the 2000 event. We traveled 9 hours squeezed on a bus to Durango with a senile, maniac bus driver in 2001, and then we bussed all the way to Provo in 2002. Hell no, I don't want to go. By agreement of the league at the 1999 meeting, or whatever, the championships host would alternate years on one or the other side of "The rock" (Utah/Colorado). So far this concept is not working that well for us.
Be careful what you wish for. My mouth has landed me on a committee to research the possibilities of holding the 2003 Championships in one of the Denver City Stadiums.
* It is almost a sure bet that this will be the final year for the USLIA championships to be held in St. Louis in May. They are looking at Florida, Colorado, and California. They want the event to move because no one seems to pay attention to it in St. Louis. Well, someone must have, as we have welcomed 3 players from Missouri to our program this year. We have never had a player from the "Show me state" before. The three are Joe Lauber G, and Dan Mcgrew M, from Kirkwood, and Pete Jokisch G, who played at Rockhurst.
